restricted diets

Dear AuntieV,

I too have had type 2 Diabetes but the odd thing is I was vever bothered by the over indulging in sugar. Actually the opposite occured with sugar lows. I hated to prick my finger but now being able to stick my arm when I test occationally. I am completely off pills now. I need to sign off now but continue later.

Restricted diets 2

Over the years I have been on a somewhat restricted diet. 1st to controll sugar and lose weight.. 2nd0 with the development of an arythmic heart and a pacemaker the I had a salt restriction. With the salt restriction weight loss was no problem and with the weight loss the type 2 diabetes lessened to the point where I did not require medication.

Salt restriction is a horrid way to lose weight as it is the one of the best flavor enhancements about. Very soon I found the use of some herbs and spices along with citrus juice to help quite a bit. Much of perceived flavor is from the aroma so you will need to experiment. For people with coumadin, it is not so much of an ordeal but careful ventures need to be made to your INR to the range recomended. I'm not too much of a lettuce eater but I do enjoy certain herbs and spices some of which are on the watch it list. Use your blood draw to tell you when to increase or slow down on the green foods.

May Lee should enable the addion of other charts like blood sugar or coagulation so you could compare to the food consumption.

Have fun, my wife and I are going out for dinner tonight, and have no regard for calories, salt, and other worisome things - thats for the scale to tell us tomorrow. or mor more to the point , does the belt fit the same?

ps I found a handy little thing that comes with windows - do a search for charactermap and you can find all the oddball characters and marks that seem to be rec ipes for some strange land. (Lee has a nice one in LC 2008 but you know the rule - as soon as a nice table is made out pops a stranger.

I use Living Cookbook. If you paid me for everyone I've sent to buy your program, I'd be taking a cruise to the Bahamas right now. I love this program!

Both my children have Asperger's Syndrome (high functioning autism). A special diet isn't required, after all, they can lead a somewhat normal life with Asperger's. But if you take all gluten out of the diet, the symptoms of Autism disappear.

Living Cookbook changed my children's lives and mine. Going GF is a very difficult choice when you don't "have" to. It means no more stops at Wendy's, McDonalds and no more pizza delivered when I don't feel like cooking.

It means learning how to combine tapioca flour, chickpea flour and cornstarch flour with xanthan gum to replace wheat when I bake bread. You have to learn why using chickpea flour won't work in some recipes but if you use sweet rice flour it makes it better. And you need to know the difference between sweet rice flour, white rice flour and brown rice flour in a recipe.

Living Cookbook changed my life. Thank you doesn't even begin to say how thankful I am for this program.

When I get the money, I plan to upgrade to v 2008. I sooo look forward to being able to copy paste recipes from the internet! You must read minds! I don't know what else I could possibly ask for!

We just want to eat healthier by eating more whole foods cooked at home. We lost weight by using livestrong.com to keep track of calories, and want to continue that with home cooked meals. It's a lot of fun trying different recipes and see the nutritional values and find way to make it healthier.

Using LC and DP

I've used LC for several years to develop recipes and adjust them for a more healthy diet. Now that I'm about to have bariatric surgery, I'm buying DP for tracking the far more stringent requirements that my new gastric band imposes. I'm pleased with much of DP but really wish I could modify some of the current daily metrics, such as protein (I want to set it at 60 gms), calorie budget (I want to set it to 600), water (I want to set it at 64 oz), and sodium (I want to limit it to 900 mg).

I'd also REALLY appreciate it if LC and DP could use a COMMON database for recipes and ingredients. I tweak and/or add recipes several times a week; that doesn't map well to the current export process!

Family cookbook & dog recipes

I originally bought LC08 to input, organize and publish a family cookbook, but have primarily used it for tweaking recipes for a homemade diet for my dogs.

I had to create a custom values profile using 500 calories per day and input all the dog nutritional needs to make the nutritional analysis of the recipes show up as anywhere near the correct %.

The things we do for our "fur kids"....
